WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A Wausau city committee will be looking at licensing escort services at a meeting tonight.
The Public Health and Safety Committee will consider adopting a rule requiring escort services to register with the city and get a license, to adopt new state statutes on prostitution, and levy city fines on prostitution as well. It's a similar ordinance to one that was passed in the Everest Metro police district last month. Similar ordinances have been passed in Appleton and Grand Chute.
The ordinance would require escort services that provide dancers for parties and stripteases to register with the city and pass background checks and licensure procedures. It would also fine those businesses that are working illegally in the city, as well as those that solicit prostitution.
Any changes to the city ordinances would have to be approved by the full council.
Tonight's meeting starts at 5:15 in the Wausau City Council chambers.
