Hochuli Explains New Rules To Packers

GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Green Bay Packer defense got quite a lesson yesterday, when N-F-L referee Ed Hochuli (hock'-you-lee) and three members of his crew officiated at practice.

He said they caught lots of penalties by the defensive backs in the first ten plays of their matchup drills with receivers.  The offense was relatively clean, with only one interference call.  The league is putting a special emphasis this year on offensive pass interference, defensive holding, and illegal contact.

That's got the Packer defenders grumbling -- some of them, anyway.  Corner Jarrett Bush, one of yesterday's guilty parties, predicted that fans would be upset over a high number of penalties this season.  As Bush put it, "There's going to be a ton of points on the board ... There's got to be something to help corners."

Hochuli -- a Milwaukee native -- predicts a lot of flags early on, perhaps in the first exhibition games and the first regular season contests.

Linebacker Nick Perry practiced for the first time at camp yesterday.  Corner Tramon Williams left early with an unspecified problem.  The Packers return to the practice field this morning.
