Walker makes staff members sign ethics pledge

Gov. Scott Walker at Small Business Summit
Gov. Scott Walker at Small Business Summit

UNDATED (WRN-WSAU)  The governor says the search of the home of a former aide was not behind a decision to have his staff sign an ethics pledge. About two months after the FBI and law enforcement raided the home of Cindy Archer, who worked in Governor Scott Walker's office when he was Milwaukee County executive, the governor began requiring his staff to sign a pledge stating they would not do campaign work on state time. Walker says the suggestion came from his chief of staff.

Walker says it was not a result of the raid on Archer's home, but an extension of what had previously only been a verbal policy since he took office.

The raid on Archer's home was in September of 2011, while the Ethics Policy and Professional Code of Conduct pledge was instituted in November of that year.

Evidence that was seized in the raid on Archer's home has never been released. It was part of a probe into whether campaign work was done out of Walker's county executive office, although Archer was not among those charged in the long-running John Doe investigation.
