WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) There was a water-main break on Wausau's west-side last night. It happened around 7pm on 6th Avenue near Norton Street.
The water pipes in that area of the city are old, and may have been further weakened by the unusually cold weather. The cold also made it more difficult to fix the problem. Crews usually shut off water service to an entire area to make repairs. But this time they wanted to keep the water flowing, for fear of more freeze ups.
People who live in the area may notice low water pressure. Water from the break spilled into the streets for several blocks and started icing over at the surface. Police closed several blocks nearby because of slippery conditions.
