Walker supports non-government operated propane reserves

by

UNDATED (WSAU) -- It may be July, but the winter propane shortage is still on the minds of governmental leaders in Madison.

Governor Scott Walker made propane and other fuel issues the main agenda item for the Midwestern Governors Association this year. When asked if Wisconsin should consider having a government reserve, similar to the federal government’s petroleum reserves, Walker said the state needs to help the right groups create the reserve.  “We think there should be reserves, but not necessarily a government driven one, but one where we’ll assist not only the providers of propane, but even working with larger users, manufacturers, working with the Farm Bureau and others about helping farmers to get access to propane earlier in the season.”

Walker does encourage distributors, farmers, and others to stock up on propane now while the supplies are adequate and the prices are lower.
