Wausau man sentenced to four years in prison on child porn charges

by

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A 26-year-old Wausau man will spend the next 4 years in prison for sharing child pornography images in 2013.

Tyler Vogel was sentenced Tuesday afternoon in Marathon County Court on three counts of possession of child pornography. He previously took a plea deal to dismiss a number of the charges against him.

Police say Vogel was chatting with people on an anonymous video chatting website and trading pictures of underage girls with the people he chatted with. Special agents with the state Division of Criminal Investigation and Wausau police raided Vogel's home in December and found the images there according to court records.

At the sentencing today, Judge Greg Grau told Vogel that his actions were unacceptable. "By his own admission he viewed over 200 images of child pornography. He was involved in a network that exploited children."

Vogel did address the court, and apologized for his actions. "Everyday I wish I could go back and not make the mistakes I've made. I realize how serious it is."

Vogel has a previous conviction for sexual assault stemming from several incidents at his place of work where he inappropriately touched and made passes at female teenage employees.

Once released from prison, Vogel will spend the next four years on extended supervision. He is not eligible for early release programs, and will not be allowed contact with children under the age of 18.
