Legion Baseball Regional Day 1 Results

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) Plover, Stevens Point and Wausau all won their opening games at the double elimination Region 2  American Legion Baseball Tournament at Athletic Park.

Plover opened the tournament with a 9-0 win over Wisconsin  Rapids. Austin Schulfer and Andy Bergh combined on a 2-hitter. Seven of the nine Plover runs were scored by the top three hitters in the lineup...Eric Zelhofer, Ryan Makuski & Mitch Mallek. Alex Slowey hit  a solo homer for Plover.

Wisconsin Rapids will face Marshfield in a loser out game at 1pm on Thursday. Plover will take on DC Everest at 4pm.

 

Stevens Point won the second game of the day 4-2 over Marshfield. Post 6 scored 3 unearned runs in the 7th inning which gave them the lead. They added an insurance run in the 8th.

Daulton Varsho had three of Marshfield's five hits and scored both runs.

 

Wausau rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off  7-6 win over DC Everest. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning which included an Andrew Block home run. DC Everest countered with 3 runs in the 3rd and 2 in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.

Wausau got two back in the 6th with doubles from Logan Grunenwald and Payton Nelson. Dc Everest scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single from Kodie Kocher.

The Wausau rally in the ninth begane with a one out single from Mitch Leopold. After a Scott Kieper walk and Jacob Brandenburg single loaded the bases, Block had his 3rd hit of the night which drove in two and tied the game. After a pop out and an intentional walk to Willy Brand to load the bases..Payton Nelson worked the count and lined a single to right which scored the game winner.

Garret Hohn picked up the win in relief. Block, Brand & Grunenwald had three hits apiece.

DC Everest plays Plover at 4pm on Thursday. Wausau will play Stevens Point in a winners bracket game at 7pm. All games are at Athletic Park.
