GREEN BAY, Wis. (WSAU-Wheeler News) -- The happiest Green Bay Packer at Saturday’s opening of training camp might have been the much-wealthier wide receiver Jordy Nelson.
He reportedly signed a new four-year deal worth 39-million dollars. The contract extension includes and 11-and-a-half-million dollar signing bonus. Nelson caught 85 passes last season for 1,314 yards.
He has quickly become one of the best receivers in the NFL. The next thing the team must deal with is finding a common ground with receiver Randall Cobb, whose rookie deal ends after this season. A big crowd showed up to see linebacker Clay Matthews and free agent Julius Peppers on the field at the same time. The Packers hope those two put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks this season. And, the team says linebackers Mike Neal and Nick Perry are almost ready to start practicing.
