State Supreme Court to issue rulings on Act 10, Voter ID, sex-sex registry on Thursday morning

MADISON, Wis (WSAU)  The State Supreme Court will hand down rulings Thursday morning on four highly-anticipated cases.

The court combined two cases involving Wisconsin's Voter ID law -- separate challenges from the NAACP chapter in Milwaukee and by the League of Women Voters. The ruling will center on whether requiring voters to get an ID, which requires a birth certificate or paying for replacement documents, is an unfair burden on voting rights. A federal judge has already ruled aganst Wisconsin's voter ID law.

The court will also rule on a challenge to Act 10, which put limits on the collective bargaining rights of public employees. The lawsuit was challenged by Madison's teachers union.

Another case involves a legal challenge to Wisconsin's same-sex partnership registry. The U.S. Supreme Court has issued a series of rulings in favor of same-sex partnership rights since then, and earlier this year a federal judge ruled that Wisconsin's ban on same-sex marriages was unconstitutional.

The state supreme court's rulings are expected at 10:30am Thursday.
