Heavy rain in parts of Wisconsin

Sewers can't handle last week's rain
Sewers can't handle last week's rain

UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News)  Another rainy day is in store for most of Wisconsin, after parts of the state were deluged with almost four-inches late yesterday. Viroqua had about three-and-three quarter inches of rain and hail in the 24 hours ending at four this morning. Three-and-a-quarter inches fell near Oshkosh in a five-hour period. Ripon got an inch-and-a-half of rain in just one hour.

Ten-inches of mud covered parts of Highway 57 near Chilton. The National Weather Service said it was caused by nearby farm runoff. Flash floods made a road impassable near Westby in southwest Wisconsin.

In Grant County, 50-mile-an-hour winds knocked down a winter wheat crop near Wiota. To the north, Lincoln County authorities said lightning might have caused $50,000 in damage in a fire at a rural house near Merrill early yesterday. Nobody was hurt there.

About 2,500We Energies' electric customers lost their power in the Milwaukee area last night. That number was reduced to 340 as of 5:30 this morning. Most remaining outages were in the Fond du Lac and New Berlin areas. Wisconsin Power-and-Light still had about 100 customers out in Crawford County early today. The rain diminished overnight -- but forecasters say another round of storms is due in today, as a cold front is expected to move through Wisconsin tonight.
