MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The Port of Milwaukee had a 5.4 percent increase in its net income last year.
The facility on Lake Michigan released its annual report Monday, showing that it made $1.4 million in 2013.
Acting port director Paul Vornholt says 2014 is also shaping up to be a strong year.
The figures show increased cargo from both Great Lakes and international freighters -- plus cargo from the rail lines that run through the port.
Actually, though, much of Milwaukee's port revenue comes from leases on its 467 acres. The Coast Guard and the Navy lease property there -- plus the Lake Express ferry and the Milwaukee Art Museum, among others.
