MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Brewers will have three picks tonight, as the Major League draft gets underway.
Milwaukee has the 12th choice in the first round, the 41st pick in a competitive balance round, and the 51st selection in Round-Two.
This year's draft is considered to be rich with pitching, and a number of quality arms should be available by the time the Brewers get on the clock. One possibility is Vanderbilt right-hander Tyler Beede, who turned down a two-point-four million dollar signing bonus from Toronto in the 2011 draft so he could go to college.
Other pitchers who could drop to the 12th spot include Aaron Nola of L-S-U, Jeff Hoffman of East Carolina, and Erick Fedde of Nevada-Las Vegas. Hoffman and Fedde recently had Tommy John elbow surgeries.
Possible hitting candidates include catcher Max Pentecost from Kennesaw State and outfielder Michael Conforto of Oregon State.
