Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks used two home runs, including one from Northwoods League Home Run leader Paul DeJong to defeat the Green Bay Bullfrogs, 11-5.
The Bullfrogs struck early in their first at-bats when Ryan Koziol hit a grounder down the first base line that got passed Woodchucks’ first baseman Brendon Hayden bringing in Matt Beaty for a 1-0 lead.
The Woodchucks evened up the score at one when Paul DeJong continued his hot start and hit an infield single bringing home Nate Mondou. Mondou hit a key two-out triple to get into scoring position.
The Bullfrogs countered however when Tony Brandner hit a ground that got through the right side of the infield to bring home Daniel Jackson giving the Frogs a 2-1 lead.
The Woodchucks used five straight hits including two home runs to distance themselves from the Bullfrogs. The first home run was a three-run shot by DeJong which gave the Woodchucks a 4-2 lead at the time. The Woodchucks tacked on two more runs when Nick Banks hit a moonshot home run giving the Woodchucks a 6-2 lead.
DeJong continued his big night in the bottom of the seventh inning when he hit a bases loaded double to bring in all three runners. DeJong finished the night 4-for-4 with a single, two doubles, and the three-run home run. DeJong finished with six RBIs on the night.
The Woodchucks got another quality start this time from Connor McFadden. McFadden pitched six innings giving up just two earned runs while striking out two batters.
