MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WSAU-TSN) - Ryan Zimmerman stroked a game-winning homer in the 16th inning, leading the Washington Nationals to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the second installment of a three-game set.
Adam LaRoche got aboard with a one-out single off reliever Mike Fiers (0-1) in the top of the 16th, then Zimmerman brought him home with a towering shot to left-center field to put the Nationals in front.
Rafael Soriano retired the side in order during the home half of the 16th to earn his 18th save of the season.
Anthony Rendon also homered for the Nationals, who extended their winning streak to four games. Reliever Tyler Clippard (5-2) tossed a scoreless 15th inning to earn the win.
Nats starter and former Auburndale and UW Stevens Point pitcher Jordan Zimmermann conceded just two runs on six hits with nine strikeouts across six solid frames.
Ryan Braun supplied two hits and two RBI for Milwaukee, which has dropped the first two games of the series. Starter Yovani Gallardo gave up just one run on four hits in six innings of work.
The game lasted until well after midnight. The two teams go at it again with a daytime contest. Pregame programming starts on WSAU 550 AM and 99.9 FM at 12:35 p.m.
