WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Drivers in the downtown Wausau area will have additional reasons to avoid Grand Avenue. Beginning Thursday, pavement milling will begin between Kent Street and Townline Road. New pavement will be put down beginning the week of June 30th.
Department of Transportation officials say this phase of construction will mean more construction traffic as trucks haul away the old pavement. These trucks will also be entering and exiting the driving lanes at unpredictable points, so motorists are urged to be careful.
Drivers can expect some long delays during the milling and paving phases of construction. Using alternate routes around Grand Avenue is recommended.
In mid July, work begins between Townline Road and Division Street. The whole thing is expected to wrap up in October.
