PHOENIX, AZ (LEARFIELD-WSAU) A split squad from the Oakland A's beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-to-4 yesterday in an exhibition contest in Phoenix. Luke Montz belted a two-run walk-off homer off Johnny Hellweg.
Wily Peralta tossed three scoreless innings in his first start of the spring. The only hit he gave up was a double to Michael Taylor. Peralta struck out three.
Brewers' veteran Rickie Weeks is off to a solid spring, as he tries to take back the second-base job from Scooter Gennett. Weeks missed the final two months of last season after hamstring surgery.
So far this spring, Weeks is hitting .444 with a homer, an R-B-I, and two runs scored in 13 plate appearances. He walked twice in yesterday's game. Weeks said he made some slight adjustments in the way he holds the bat, to try and get a smoother swing -- and he's feeling better than he has in a long time.
The Brewers will play the A's again this afternoon.
