EAGLE RIVER, Wis. (WXPR) — Trees For Tomorrow in Eagle River has reached 93 percent of the money they sought to buy a statute commemorating the Civilian Conservation Corps workers.
Operations manager Cheryl Todea says they are nearing the end of a project that began a year and half ago. “To honor the Civilian Conservation Corps veterans who had a really great impact all over the nation in the late 1930’s and ’40’s…, planting trees, laying railroad ties, building shelters.” She says most Americans have been impacted to this day by CCC workers, especially in state and federal properties. She says the statue will honor the work of the Corps, along with continuing to educate future generations about taking care of the resources.
A dedication is set for June 14. She says certain donations can honor workers with a plaque. Todea says over half of the money they raised came from CCC veteran Richard Chrisinger from Missouri.
