GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Green Bay Packers’ linebacker Clay Matthews was fined just over 22-thousand dollars for a blind-side hit on Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson last Sunday.
It happened during an interception return by Packers’ safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, after Green Bay built up a 16-nothing lead. Matthews was flagged 15 yards on the play. As a result, the Packers started at their own 44-yard line instead of Seattle territory — and Aaron Rodgers threw a pick three days later.
Matthews had a sack and six tackles in last week’s N-F-C Championship Game loss to the Seahawks. He left the game early and said afterward he was “mentally, emotionally, and physically drained.”
Yesterday, we learned that Seahawks’ running back Marshawn Lynch was fined 20-thousand dollars by the N-F-L for grabbing his crotch in the end zone after he scored a go-ahead touchdown near the end of regulation.
