WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — The teenager charged as an adult for the gang related stabbing death of another Wausau teenager will stay in adult court.
15-year-old Dylan Yang appeared in Marathon County court Thursday for a reverse waiver hearing, to consider moving the case to the juvenile court system. Defense attorney Jay Kronenwetter waived Yang’s right to the reverse waiver hearing, unable to provide additional evidence beyond a doctor’s report to back up the request. Yang is charged with the death of 13-year-old Isaiah Powell on February 27th. All homicide cases start in adult court.
Kronenwetter entered not guilty pleas on Yang’s behalf to the charge of first-degree reckless homicide. Judge Jill Falstad accepted the plea, and allowed the defense 10 days to file for a possible substitution of the judge.
No new court date has been set. Yang remains in custody, held on a one million dollar cash bond.
The complaint says Yang and another juvenile were sitting on the porch at his home at 915 Jefferson Street when Isaiah Powell exited a vehicle and started shooting a gun at them. Yang told officers he didn’t know if the gun was real or not, and ran into the house to get the knife. When he returned, Powell was punching the other juvenile.
The other juvenile realized the gun was a BB gun. He tackled Powell. Powell pushed the young man into a snowbank. When Powell was getting off from on top of the youth, Yang stabbed him in the back twice.
Powell was taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital by private car before police arrived at the house. He died at the hospital.
