DUPONT, Wis. (WSAU) — Waupaca County officials say no one was injured after a tornado struck a home and damaged several buildings.
Deputies were notified of a tornado touchdown in Dupont just before 5pm on Monday. A family escaped harm after the tornado directly struck their home.
A mother and her three children were inside the home when they heard the wind pick up outside. A four year old and a seven year old child inside the home were moved under a staircase, but the woman had to run upstairs to get a one year old to safety as the tornado struck the house. The twister tore part of the roof off the home and leveled a shed.
The tornado then moved along the road and destroyed a barn and damaged another house before moving on. The barn and the other house were not occupied at the time of the tornado.
The National Weather Service also reported a storm system produced a tornado in Shawano County shortly after 5 p.m., before threatening parts of Oconto County.
Three separate sightings of a tornado were reported.
Weather spotters confirming the tornado, also reported heavy rains and high winds along with this storm system as it passed through Shawano and Cecil.
Official damage estimates have not been released.
