PLAINFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) — More information is being released about a fatal rock climbing accident last weekend west of Plainfield. Adams County Sheriff Sam Wollin says 26-year-old Kevin Olson of Poynette, Wisconsin had fallen off from Owens Rock, which is just over half a mile south of County Highway D in teh Town of Leola. Investigators determined that Olson had jumped down to a lower level of the rock at about 8:40 a.m. last Saturday. When he landed, he then fell about 45 feet to the ground.
Wollen says lifesaving measures were attempted, but not successful, and Olson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several emergency departments assisted the Adams County Sheriff’s Department at the scene, including the Adams County Medical Examiner, Rome Police, Plainfield Fire and Rescue, and Waushara Ambulance.
Olson was a 2007 Sun Prairie High School graduate, and enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his young son Bentley. Gunderson Funeral Home officials say his services will be at Hooker’s Resort along the Wisconsin River near Poynette this Saturday beginning at 11 o’clock.
