MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) — A proposed “Green Corridor” along Second Street in downtown Marshfield has cleared another hurdle following the approval of that project by the city’s Common Council Tuesday night, but that approval came only after yet another clash between city leaders and downtown merchants.
Bill Mitten from Mitten’s Furniture and Appliance said that a proposed one-way street design would hinder business. “We have numerous customers, employees, people that come in with deliveries, none of them can understand why the street is going to be changed the way that it is.”
Director of planning and economic development Jason Angell says what the council approved wasn’t a finalized plan, but rather just a general concept for the project featuring, “One-way traffic with angled parking and increased pedestrian improvements, as well as green space along one side of the street.”
Marshfield’s Common Council passed that plan by a vote of five to four.
