WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — Marathon County voted to support an indoor ban on e-cigarattes. Supervisors voted Tuesday to encourage state legislators to add electronic cigarettes and vaping devices to the smoking products that should be taken outside under the Clean Indoor Air Act.
Several board supervisors questioned how safe the e-cigs are, since there is very little scientific research on the chemicals used in the products.
Supevisor Richard Gumz told WAOW television that if the public building ban is enacted in county buildings, they should think about all county property, indoors and outdoors. “That was the question I asked, they said the parking lot too so really there should be no smoking in any kind on the grounds and in county parks, too.”
Supervisor Joel Lewis says there should be one exemption if a ban is enacted. “I agree that we shouldn’t allow e-cigarettes everywhere however I do think we should make an exception for the business that where that’s their soul purpose of making money.”
The Marathon County Board heard a presentation last week about e-cigs and vaping, and the unknown health concerns because of the unregulated chemicals in the smoking fluids.
