Marshfield, Wis (WSAU) — Even before the lights went dark Monday night on this year’s Central Wisconsin State Fair in Marshfield, organizers were thankful for summer-like weather and huge crowds.
While the ‘official’ numbers aren’t in yet, fair manager Adam Fischer said it was probably the fair’s best year in a very long time. “We had the best Saturday we’ve had in probably the last 10 to 15 years.” Fischer said. “We had a record attendance all day Saturday. Diamond Rio, the headliners for Saturday, filled the grandstand to max capacity. And the weather has been great… Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday the weather was great. It was hot, but no rain, and so people came out.” Fischer said, “That’s especially good news, since, Wednesday and Thursday our numbers were down during the day because of the first week of school. But our evenings were very good, very profitable for us.” The only exception was a Sunday night downpour that caused the cancellation of the ‘Thousand Foot Krutch’ concert.
In the past, the fair’s often been plagued by rain and muddy conditions; but this year, there were sunny skies and above average temperatures for early September.
Now that the fair’s over, Fischer says they’ll start planning next year’s event within the next few days.
