PLOVER, Wis. (WSAU) — O’so Brewery in Plover has taken home a gold medal from the Great American Beer Festival.
The brewery’s The Big O beer won first prize in the American-Style Wheat Beer with Yeast category this year, beating out 41 other entries in the category. O’so Brewing Company president Marc Buttera says he’s very happy to get that recognition. “You know we’ve really worked our butts off here to make great beer, and to win the award really validates all our hard work.”
Buttera says one of the nice things about The Big O is that it’s one of their year round beers, which makes it very accessible to the public. “It’s something that people can go out and buy at any time at the store. And it’s a beer that’s a lighter, more approachable beer that people that aren’t even maybe craft beer drinkers can go out and buy The Big O and enjoy it.”
Tourism officials in Portage County have been working in the past to build up the area for beer and brewery tourism, and Buttera says this is really a strong piece of that puzzle. “Point, Central Waters, they’ve all medalled in the past, they’re good breweries. So I guess we’re part of the Cool Kids Club now. It’s pretty awesome.”
You can find O’so’s in the Village Park shops in Plover, and in stores across Central Wisconsin.
