WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — A long-time public office holder has decided to retire. Marathon County’s Register of Deeds Michael Sydow issued a statement Monday saying he will not seek re-election. Sydow has held the Register of Deeds position since 1991. His present term expires on the first Monday of January next year.
During his twenty five years at the post, the office has gone from all paper records to electronic record keeping.
Prior to holding elected office, Sydow worked in the county surveyor’s office for twelve years.
Sydow said he and his wife plan to spend more time with their grandchildren, traveling and volunteering in the community.
