ANTIGO, Wis. (WSAU) — The Antigo house fire injured a teenager Tuesday, but there’s another victim of that fire that needs some help.
Chevy is a two-year-old purebred female German Shepherd that Antigo firefighters rescued from a burning house at 518 Dorr Street Tuesday afternoon. The firefighters were able to administer oxygen to the dog at the scene, which Antigo Veterinary Clinic staff believe is the only reason Chevy survived the trip to the clinic.
Now, the dog is under anesthesia and is on a ventilator.
Jeremy Gasser and Kathy Schreiber’s home was gutted by the fire, and their 17-year-old son Austin is recovering at UW Hospital in Madison.
Veterinarians say Chevy’s outlook isn’t that good, but her best chance of survival is to transfer her to the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center, which can provide around-the-clock care.
The Antigo vet clinic’s Angel fund is accepting donations in hopes of sending her there.
