ST. LOUIS, Mo. (WSAU) — A ninth-inning rally was cut one run short by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Milwaukee Brewers were swept in game three of their weekend series 9-8 on Sunday.
The clubs were tied at two through four innings, but the Cards would begin to pull away in the bottom of the fifth and would add a grand slam home run from right fielder Stephen Piscotty in the sixth inning. The Brewers would fight back with a four-run ninth inning flurry including a two RBI double from Kirk Nieuwenhuis, but they could not force extra innings.
Halfway through the season, the Brewers have lost 13 of their last 18 games, but mostly not by large margins. The Crew goes to Washington Monday morning for a Fourth of July matchup with the Nationals and pitcher Max Scherzer. Coverage begins at 9:30 a.m. on the Brewers Radio Network.
