CINCINNATI, Ohio (WSAU) — Two home runs and seven strong innings from pitcher Jimmy Nelson led to the first post-All-Star break win for the Brewers, 9-1 over the Cincinnati Reds.
Hernan Perez had a two-run home run to open scoring in the top of the first, and before the first inning was over, it was already 4-0. All-Star Jonathan Lucroy would add to the effort with his 12th home run of the season, also a two-run shot. Nelson had gone winless in last seven starts, but he allowed no runs and only six hits with seven strikeouts. Perez left the game with a left foot injury, but the third baseman is expected back for Sunday.
One of Milwaukee’s top pitchers, Zach Davies, has been recalled from Triple-AAA and is getting the start to finish the series Sunday afternoon. Pregame coverage begins at 11:35 p.m. on the Brewers Radio Network.
