MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) — Work is underway again on a big project we first told you about in September of 2013.
The Mosinee Athletic Complex, or MAC, is in the middle of a multi-year construction project to expand the ball fields and add football and soccer fields. They began with around three years ago with fundraising for phase one, which was to build a brand new high school baseball field, a brand new high school softball field, a youth softball field, and two smaller football fields.
One of the biggest cost savings in expanding the MAC was achieved by working with the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Brigadier General Mark Anderson told WAOW television the soldiers at the construction site appreciate the opportunity to do something that benefits the community while they complete required training. “This is such a great opportunity for the soldiers that we have. I think the beauty of the National Guard is our soldiers come from the communities we serve.”
Heavy equipment operators that are part of the National Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers are moving soil and rock to create new, level playing fields and the appropriate drainage around them.
The MAC expansion project will keep soldiers returning to Mosinee for a few weeks each summer through 2020.
