ABBOTSFORD, WI (WSAU) — Governor Scott Walker made a stop in the Abbotsford School District Friday morning to talk more about the state budget and the record K-12 school funding inside of it.
Gov. Walker says training a quality workforce is more important than ever because of the number of people working in Wisconsin now.
Walker said, “We just saw yesterday with the new unemployment numbers out at 3.4%. That’s the lowest it’s been since April of the year 2000. We now have more people employed in the state of Wisconsin than we’ve ever had before and we’ve got one of the highest percentages of people working.”
Gov. Walker also said he enjoys traveling to smaller school districts, like Abbotsford, even more so now because more money will be coming their way in the new state budget.
“For schools like Abbotsford and other small schools across the state, we added more money to help rural school districts,” said the governor. “All things, so that the dollars we give to every school district here and other smaller rural school districts will actually go to help student success.”
Walker talked to the high school and middle school students for about 20 minutes Friday morning. Before addressing them, Walker visited with some of the elementary students as well.
