STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Two sets of parking meters have been installed in Stevens point for different times of the day.
Downtown overnight parking in Stevens Point will be allowed in the lot between Shopko and the former Mid-State Technical College building for a small fee. Mayor Mike Wiza spoke with Newsline 9.
“Downtown is becoming more vibrant. We’ve got a lot more people living downtown,” said Wiza. “We have unrestricted overnight lots, but they’re a ways away.”
The date when citizens can use the new downtown meters has not been set yet.
Meanwhile, UW-Stevens Point has their own new set of parking kiosks that will be used for daytime parking at 50 cents an hour in spaces that were previously free to use. Several students voiced their displeasure about the news, including junior Logan Sclavi.
“They need a parking spot for people who are commuting,” said Sclavi. “Who may not want a parking pass because they’re not going to be on campus all the time.”
The campus kiosks go live on Tuesday. The meters were unanimously approved by the Stevens Point Common Council.
