MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) — Viewers from around the world are checking out a video of deer enjoying a unique “Christmas Feast” at Marshfield’s Wildwood Zoo.
That’s according to zoo-keeper Steve Burns who says the Christmas day video features deer chowing down on goodies at a dinner table complete with place-setting; and so far that quirky video has had more than six-million hits thanks to some quick-thinking and creativity by zoo volunteer Pam Nikolai!
“We set out a Christmas feast for them,” Burns said, “and one of our volunteers, Pam Nikolai, took a quick video clip of the deer enjoying their meal, and posted it to Facebook, and it just kind of exploded from there.”
The video’s already been seen by viewers worldwide including places like Serbia, Austria, Romania and Iraq; and Burns says it’s generated more than 14,000 “likes” for the zoo’s Facebook page in just the last few days as well.
“The (zoo’s) Facebook page has also been very popular. The ‘actions’ on the page are up 580% from December 27th to January 2nd. It’s pretty incredible,” Burns said. “To have it grow to such a large audience outside of our little town of Marshfield here is pretty exciting to see, and exciting to read some of the comments from really around the world. Just really excited to reach so many people.”
As of Tuesday, Burns said the video was still getting more than a half-a-million new hits every few hours.
