WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Great Lakes Cheese will be expanding their operations in Wausau with a large investment.
The current Great Lakes Cheese packaging facility on DeVoe Street employs 200 people. Their planned $55 million facility in the Wausau West Industrial Park will add 125 more jobs in the next three years, according to Project Manager Matt Wilkinson.
In return for $5.9 million in tax incentives, the company will donate their current riverfront property back to the city once the move is complete, which they purchased in 2003.
This is the second manufacturer to announce a move from the riverfront this year, the first being Wausau Chemical back in April. The city is currently in a major economic redevelopment phase of the east riverfront properites.
Groundbreaking on the new plant is expected by the end of the month.
