WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The search for a missing Plover woman took authorities to the Cranberry Creek Landfill in Wisconsin Rapids Wednesday. 44-year-old Krista Sypher has been missing since March.
Plover Police Chief Dan Ault tells WAOW Newsline 9 that officials were searching the landfill to try and make sure all their bases are covered in the investigation.
He said, “This isn’t a very common thing, but I don’t want to leave any stone unturned. During these type of investigations, people dispose of various articles and items and so forth.”
Ault also tells Newsline 9 that the department is trying to continue to hope for the best when it comes to the investigation.
“It weighs heavily on the department. I can tell you my detectives have had sleepless nights. I’ve had sleepless nights,” said Ault. “(We hope) that this doesn’t go as an unsolved or a cold case. My intention is to solve this case and I’m confident that we’re going to do that.”
Sypher was reported missing by her husband one week after she was last seen.
Authorities would not confirm what exactly they were looking for at the landfill. Police continue to say they believe that foul play was involved in Sypher’s disappearance.
