MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield Police are requesting some new surveillance cameras to help protect domestic abuse victims, businesses, and police headquarters in downtown Marshfield.
P.D. Chief Rick Gramza says one group of small, hidden cameras would be loaned out to domestic abuse or robbery victims so they can better keep an eye out for trouble. “What these cameras are, is they’re doorbell cameras. We would hand them out to various domestic violence victims, restraining order victims, possibly businesses that have been burglarized in the past or maybe are targets for burglaries.”
Other cameras would be used right at police headquarters to help officers do their jobs better and more safely. “We’re adding a couple more interview rooms which need to be recorded, both audio and video,” Gramza explained. “But we’re also looking to better secure our building, our current building that we’re in.”
In total, around $15,000 would be transferred from various ‘protective services funds” to purchase the cameras, and that funding was unanimously approved by the city’s Finance, Budget, and Personnel Committee on Tuesday.
Final ‘consent agenda’ approval is still needed from the city’s Common Council at their meeting next week.
