WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — WSAU’s sister station Great Country 101.9 WDEZ is looking for your help to raise funds for cancer research today and Friday through their 17th annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids radiothon.
WDEZ’s Joe Malone says the event helps the Memphis based charity lend a hand to families of children being treated for cancer. “They save children’s lives every day, and it’s all done 100% on donations. No family ever receives a bill from St. Jude and it’s all because of fundraisers like this.”
Malone says last year’s event raised over $170,000. He hopes the team can raise a similar amount this year, “we’d love to break that, but whatever we can raise we are happy to do so.”
Those who would like to donate can either make a one-time contribution or make an automatic $20 monthly donation by becoming a Partner in Hope. Malone says anyone who signs up to be a Partner in Hope during the two-day event will receive a t-shirt as a token of appreciation. “It’s all because of fundraisers like this that they are able to do the research that they do. It saves children’s lives and the best part is, they don’t keep that research to themselves. They share it nationwide and worldwide,” added Malone.
Donations are being taken until 6 PM tonight and again from 6 AM to 6PM on Friday. If you’d like to donate you can call 1-800-399-5946 or donate via text message by sending “WDEZ” to shortcode 785-833. Online donations are also being accepted at WDEZ.com.
