WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Trig’s store is informing its fuel customers that some of the regular unleaded gasoline sold at its Shell station was contaminated with water this week.
According to a Facebook post it happened when freezing rain caused an issue with a fitting on one of the regular unleaded fuel tanks. The problem was detected early, but not before some customers had already pumped the fuel.
Trig’s says they have contacted those customers and are working with them to resolve any issues they are experiencing as a result of the water. In the meantime Trig’s has stopped selling regular unleaded fuel, but is still offering mid-grade and premium as those tanks were unaffected.
State inspectors are conducting tests on the fuel and according to Trig’s they will be replacing the regular unleaded fuel and will begin selling it again when they are confident there is no longer an issue.
It’s the second case of water in fuel that’s come up in Wisconsin this week. On Tuesday a Milwaukee gas station was shut down after it was discovered that the combination of a faulty seal and excessive rain caused a leak in one of their tanks.
