GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — The Green Bay Packers are still uncertain what fan access to games at Lambeau Field will look like for 2020, but say they remain committed to playing out the upcoming schedule.
Team President and CEO Mark Murphy spoke to the media last week, saying they continue to survey season ticket holders about what that experience will look like if it happens at all.
“There’s a lot at stake,” said Murphy. “We understand what Packer home games mean to the community, to local businesses. But, it’s unprecedented, uncharted waters for all of us. We want to make sure we do things as safe as possible. The last thing we would want is to contribute to an outbreak or superspreader event.”
Should fans be allowed, Murphy says the stadium staff is working to make sure there will be an adequate amount of hand sanitizer available while also installing plexiglass shields at all points of sale and guest service stations. But he admits that the fan experience means nothing if games can’t be played.
“We are going to have enough challenges just putting the games on and making sure everybody involved in playing, coaching, and putting the game on is kept safe.
“I’m confident we will get a season in. [Whether] we will have fans, I’m not so certain,” he added.
The club has sent surveys to season ticket holders regarding their interest in attending games at Lambeau during the pandemic. Murphy says the goal will be to make sure everyone who wants to can make it to at least one game in person.
As it stands capacity for the 2020 season will be no more than 12,000 fans at each game. All in attendance will be required to wear face coverings.
Any season ticket holder that opts to not attend games in 2020 will not have their seats or status as a STH impacted. They also have the option of having their payments for 2020 refunded or rolled over to 2021.
Green and Gold packages and the Brown County Ticket Drawing programs have both been suspended for the season as well.
Numerous clubs including the Washington Football Team, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New England Patriots have announced plans to significantly reduce the capacity of their stadiums this season.
