Go Go’s Doc Shows Dark Side of Fame

I watched the new Showtime documentary about the 80’s pop sensations The Go Go’s and it was very good and enlightening. I, of course, like many other people were bowled over by their debut record which hit number 1. It was the first time that an all female band that wrote their own songs and played their own instruments made it to #1. It has never been accomplished since. But like so many other bands that hit it big, success came at a cost and this comet burned out quickly. The story is told by all of the band members with very few skeletons in the closet overlooked. Plus they got back together and wrote & recorded a new tune that will take you back to the early 80’s in a heartbeat. I suggest you go back and listen to that first LP “Beauty & The Beat” and re-examine a band that should get alot more credit for what they accomplished.

Lorenzo Cain has opted out for the Brewers. He won’t be the last player to do this. Why can’t I get excited about this truncated baseball season? I thought I would be excited when baseball returned but with all of the players that are either out or injured…the new rules…the games being cancelled…my excitement has been dampened.

I expect the same thing to happen to football…both college and the NFL. Hard to imagine that any meaningful seasons will be played this fall.

A group of Pac=12 football players are threatening to sit out the season unless the conference meets their list of demands. The list includes safety regulations surrounding COVID-19, racial injustice among student-athletes and proper compensation. The group includes players from all 12 schools.
