Today is the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act being signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965. It came just a few months after John Lewis and others were beaten by Alabama state police on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Seven years ago the US Supreme Court struck down an enforcement provision of the act which has led us to our current state of attacks on voting from Donald Trump and the shameless Republican Party. Former President Barack Obama called attention to this during his stirring eulogy to Lewis last week.
The current House has passed a bill putting the teeth back in the act but, of course, is has gone on to Mitch McConnell’s Senate where everything goes to die. The current Republican Party doesn’t even hide their mendacity when it comes to this issue. Trump and others have said it out loud. The more people that vote, the worse it is for the current Republican Party. Their platform is so repudiated by the majority of Americans that voter suppression and gerrymandering is all they have left. They will tell you that mail-in voting will lead to widespread fraud. That is a lie. Our hope, of course, is that enough Americans will see through the lies, will fight through the obstacles and get to the polls to vote out these slimeballs. That enough Americans see through the chicanery and corruption. That enough Americans are able to cast their ballot and not let the bastards win. I’m hopeful as we stand 3 months away but never underestimate what lengths these people will go to to cling to the power and money they are so desperate to protect. VOTE as if your very life depended on it. It just might.
Brewer fans…we know Brandon Woodruff is the ace of the staff but don’t sleep on Adrian Houser. He was masterful vs the White Sox last night as the Crew picked up a 1-0 win.

This the the 55th anniversary of the release of “Help” by the Beatles. John Lennon called it his favorite Beatles song.
Covers Of The Day (John supposedly wanted HELP to be a ballad but the suits made him make a faster, more commercial recording. Here is what is might have sounded like slow)
