MADISON, WI (WSAU) The public health emergency declared by Governor Tony Evers last week includes a new round of FoodShare benefits for eligible households in Wisconsin.
The Department of Health Services says FoodShare recipients will get the maximum monthly benefits based on the number of people in their household. The benefits are retroactive to July, and will continue through August. The additional July benefits will begin appearing on QUEST cards starting August 9th. The August benefits will be available on August 23.
The USDA Food and Nutrition Service allows emergency benefits to be provided to states with declared public health emergencies. Due to this, Wisconsin families received emergency benefits in March, April and May.
“The pandemic continues to affect all Wisconsinites, but especially those whose income has been negatively impacted,” said Julie Willems Van Dijk, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health Services. “The ability for eligible households to access additional FoodShare benefits provides an important lifeline, and helps meet one of our most basic human needs.”
Households will receive a letter notifying them of the additional benefits.
