MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The pitching woes for Cincinnati’s Michael Lorenzen continued as the Reds two-way player didn’t record an out while giving up three runs in a 9-3 Brewers win on Sunday.
Keston Hiura and Justin Smoak both recorded three hits in the game, accounting for six of the team’s ten hits total. Hiura’s ledger included a solo home run in the 7th inning. Christian Yelich also homered in that frame.
Smoak added a double and 2 RBI. Yelich also recorded a triple and 2 RBI in the win.
Lorenzen relieved starter Sonny Gray who was pulled after 5.1 innings in the game. He was tagged with the loss after allowing six hits and four earned runs.
Brandon Woodruff went four innings in the start, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Because he didn’t pitch into the 5th inning, he did not factor in the decision. Reliever Brent Suter picked up the win, boosting his record to 2-0 on the season. He went two innings and didn’t allow a hit or earned run.
Milwaukee moves to 6-7 on the short season and will host the white-hot Minnesota Twins (10-6) beginning on Monday.
Also from the NL Central on Sunday, the St Louis Cardinals continue to ide after an outbreak of COVID-19 on their roster. The Redbirds haven’t played a game since a 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins on July 29th, including a three-game weekend set with the Brewers that was scrapped last weekend. It appears the start of their series against Pittsburgh on Monday will be postponed, according to multiple reports Sunday evening.
