WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — After a week of having a statewide mask mandate in place, the city has been working on how to implement the order.

Governor Tony Evers released an emergency order on July 30th requiring Wisconsinites to wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces. Since the order went into effect on August 1st, Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg says the city has been working with Marathon County on how to enforce the order.
Rosenberg explains that when the city first read the order on July 30th, they noticed that enforcement of it wasn’t described as a city responsibility. “We did an initial readthrough when we realized that okay the enforcement of this seems to fall on the Health Department and the DA’s office in different instances. So instead of me going out there saying hey we’re not enforcing this or my police department isn’t. We wanted to make sure we’re working with the county.”
Over the past week and a half, Rosenberg says work with Marathon County has gone well. The County recently released an online form for citizens who want to report businesses or individuals who are not complying with the mask mandate. Rosenberg says the online tool is to make sure residents aren’t clogging up the phone lines of the Health Department or the DA’s office when they would like to report noncompliance.
The online form is expected to go live sometime this week. Clark County also launched a similar online tool last week.
