MADISON, WI (WSAU) – A state appeals court ruled against one of the defendants in the ‘Slender Man’ stabbing case from 2014.
Morgan Geyser, who was 12 at the time, wanted her conviction overturned. She’d claimed that her case should have been moved to juvenile court. Wisconsin’s 2nd District Court of Appeals ruled that it was proper for her case to remain in adult court.
Geyser had reached a plea deal where she would be involuntarily confined at a state mental hospital facility for 40 years. She does have the right to petition for periodic release. Her lawyers have argued that the sentence is excessive.
The other suspect, Anissa Weier, received a more lenient sentence. She was found guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, and was ordered confined to a mental health facility for three years, followed by supervised release until age 37.
Geyser and Weier lured a middle school classmate to a wooded area and stabbed her repeatedly. She was left for dead, but survived the attack. The two suspects said they did it to appease the fictional character ‘Slender Man’ who they believed lived in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. They were planning to hike there, some 300 miles, away after the attack.
