I stopped by Molly Goral of Morrison 4-H and she said that this year’s an exciting one for her. “This is my first year showing chickens,” Molly said. She’s also bringing goats to the fair this time around.
She was explaining what the judge is looking for in chickens and in goats. “In chickens, they’re looking for the right pattern of feathers…for goats, if it’s a dairy goat…most of the goats would have to have an udder, and they’d be a milking goat,” Molly said.
She also brought up how they start getting the animals ready for the county fair in the middle of July. Molly talked about how they have to trim the goats and practice leading them. Not to mention, you need to learn the different parts of your animal, especially for meat animals. It all adds up and it’s all important.
Lastly, Molly gave some advice to anyone interested in showing at the fair. “It’s kind of tough, and the fair is tough also, but it’s fun,” Molly said.
