MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – For the first time in six days, Wisconsin saw more than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus, while Friday’s positive test rate was the highest in three and a half weeks.
The state Department of Health Services reported 1,021 new infections, well above the seven-day average of 780. There were 9,418 negative tests. The 9.8% positive test rate was higher than the seven-day average of 7.3%. It was also the highest since July 20, when 10% of tests came back positive.
The state also reported seven deaths, bringing the total to 1,025 since the pandemic began.
There have now been 64,227 people who have tested positive for coronavirus and 1,044,613 negative tests. DHS lists 54,181 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Hospitalization numbers had not been updated for the day as of early Friday afternoon.
