FOND du LAC, WI (WSAU) — The Dock Spiders won the Wisconsin-Illinois pod championship in convincing fashion over the La Crosse Loggers Saturday thanks to a 4-5 performance from Sam Novitske (Oregon), who hit a double and drove in three runs for the Dock Spiders. SMITH was 3-4, with a double and two RBI while Aaron Anderson (Liberty), AJ Miller (Oregon), and Kollyn All (Butler) had two hits each. Evan Sankey (NDSU) got the win after throwing five and one-third of an inning, allowing a run on two hits with one strikeout.
La Crosse defeated Wisconsin Rapids in the first round of the playoffs.
Most of the other NWL pods are still in action and will determine their champions. In North Dakota, the Bismarck Larks and Mandan Flickertails will meet in early September to determine that pod’s champion as both are well ahead of the Bull Moose in the standings. Traverse City and the Kalamazoo Growlers appear to be on track for a clash in the Michigan pod. While in the Minnesota-Iowa pod Willmar, St Cloud, and Waterloo appear to have separated themselves from the pack.
The Kenosha Series concludes this weekend. The Kingfish hold an eight-game lead on the Bobbers in that pod.
