WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg has explained why she decided to pull a proposed license for a Monster Truck show in Marathon Park from Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
In a thread on Twitter, Mayor Rosenberg says it wasn’t the city’s place to be issuing such a license in the first place since Marathon Park is run by the County.
“They already said yes to the Monster Truck Show, required the organizers to have a COVID-19 policy, and took their rent money,” read a Tweet from Rosenberg.
The only reason the city would have been able to intervene was if the organizers were asking for a temporary outdoor liquor license. In which case, the Council would approve that and that alone, not a license for the entire event.
The former Marathon County District 1 Supervisor calls it a “wonky local government issue.”
For the record, the future of the Wausau Monster Truck Show is not in question. It will go on unless organizers cancel it.
I'm taking complaints because of a story that ran on the news last night / this morning that reported I took the item off the agenda.

Organizers have told WSAU news they will move forward with the plans for Saturday’s shows.
She adds while you shouldn’t expect her to be in attendance for either show on Saturday, she does encourage those who choose to go to enjoy the big trucks responsibly by masking up, sanitizing their hands, and staying away from their neighbors.
Organizers of the MTE tour stop in Wausau have agreed to limit ticket sales for the event and will have multiple entry and exit points to prevent bottlenecks. Hand sanitizing stations will be posted along with signs reminding patrons to keep away from others. Additionally, the show will be spaced out with plenty of breaks to allow for manageable lines at both concessions stands and bathrooms.
The Marathon Park grandstand and infield has a capacity of around 10,000. Only 3,000-4,000 tickets will be sold for each show.
