What is it about some fictional characters that resonates with readers and keeps them on board for over a hundred years? Such is the case with Sherlock Holmes and his world. He has been used in probably hundreds of books, stories, tv shows and films since Sir Arthur Conan Doyle brought him to life in 1887. He has been played by several excellent actors on the screen, portrayed as severe, erudite, pompous, insufferable, rude, young, old, but always one step (or maybe more) ahead of everyone else. I have enjoyed him in all of his various incarnations from Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett to Robert Downey Jr, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. Numerous books have been written with Holmes as a secondary character. One really good one comes from 2015 called ” Mycroft Holmes” that was co-written by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. And if you are looking for a series of novels set in the 1920’s featuring an aging Holmes and his much younger wife, Mary Russell, check out author Laurie King’s Russell series. It is a really interesting take on the character. I bring this up because we are getting another spin on the Holmesian character on Netflix this week. It’s called Enola Holmes and featured Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock’s sister! Here is the trailer along with examples of Holmes over the years….

Quotes Of The Day
“I think Lincoln is the only President to have a SC vacancy closer to the election than now. Lincoln was replacing Taney—a crucially important appointment. He made a public, principled decision to wait until after the election to allow the newly elected President the nomination.”-Bill Kristol
“This is a Copernican moment. Democrats are realizing the old ways no longer apply. Our democracy has tilted to minority rule by white conservatives who are imposing their will on the diverse majority. That’s unsustainable and it is Dems’ responsibility to rebalance our democracy.”-Adam Jentleson
“Someone needs to tell President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, and Majority Leader Schummer that a 6-3 Supreme Court in a 3-6 America is unacceptable. Completely unacceptable.”-Jonathan Gaffney
